Short description
I have been working on scientific issues relating to electric drive systems for many years. My focus is on novel and alternative materials for use in electric machines as well as on machine design and optimization. An integral consideration and simulation of the entire system plays a decisive role here in order to obtain optima not for the individual components, but for the complete system. Special attention is paid to high-speed, permanent-magnet synchronous machines. In this context, my working group is researching issues relating to loss modeling and the targeted reduction of losses in machines with permanent magnets that are operated with frequency converters. In addition, our basic research focuses on the characterization and possible applications of stainless steels and soft magnetic powder composites (SMC).
